Hanko is a small, bilingual town (FIN, SWE) in Finland. Our school is a junior as well as a senior high school for Finnish speaking pupils with ca. 180 students. We have 21 teachers,13 teach in both schools.
Junior high has pupils aged 13-15, the school offer them a free tablet, free books and notebooks and free school lunch. If the pupil lives more than 5 kilometers away from the school, they are provided by free school buses. We have also a school nurse, one curator and one psychologist who are free for students to use.
The first year in junior high all study same subjects. The second year they have also optional subjects such as eg. German, French, home economics, sports, craft, music etc. Everybody must study English and Swedish. Today we have circa 130 pupils in junior high.
Senior high is in the same building than junior high. There are nowadays circa 50 pupils aged 16-19. In senior high the student must buy books/ electronic books and his/her own computer himself/herself. The school lunch is free. All exams are made on the computer. In junior high you must choose between short or long mathematics, and you can study French or German. If you want study some other languages you study them on the Internet. Everybody must study English and Swedish. The third year you have matriculation examination.
