CRE French Competition : « Moteur ! »
08 août 2021"Moteur!" is a French competition created by an association whose main objective is to work for equal opportunities and it was developed in partnership with the Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA), the Ministry of Education, the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC), the television channels France Télévision and TF1 and the Cannes Festival. It is a society project centered on human relations that aims to trigger in 14-22 years old the desire to progress and grow by encouraging them to meet inspiring role models who can encourage them to project themselves into the future and give them confidence : it aims at nurturing the intergenerational link, developing the notion of exemplarity, and helping them clarify their motivations and values.
The students have to work in groups and produce a common piece of work in which the opinion and creativity of each of them are important.
They also reflect with their teacher on the notion of value in general, then they exchange on the values to which they are committed and which (will) build them.
Finally, the aim of these different exchanges is to work on self-confidence, self-affirmation and identity, and to prepare them to face the way others look at them by editing a video to honour, inspire and build confidence.
Students were divided into groups of 3 : each group identified an inspiring woman and the quality or value that determined their choice. « Categories » had been proposed : woman from close circle, stranger, deceased woman, inspiring woman because of her job, a woman committed to a cause or a woman whose choice may have been considered as surprising. When they had agreed on her, they listed different elements of her life, significant memory(s) with or related to her, situation(s) where her good points or value were illustrated and they brainstormed 3 to 5 sequences of a video that would showcase her and wrote a French script in different forms of speech (monologue, dialogue, letter…)
After that, the 3 students in each group divided up the tasks :
-the first student summarized the work they had done together : the woman chosen and the value she embodied, the choice of places, shots, images, music, forms of speech and the French script to edit the video. He or she also translated the script into English to subtitle the video
-the second student created a storyboard (drawing or digitalized)
-the third student edited a 1.5 minute video with English subtitles and attached to it a selfie with the inspiring woman or what represented her.
