This activity aims to teach something about what being a female potter means and to work alone and in in pairs to create something from scratch.

Manual skills and dexterity are targeted, but also the skills of giving and following directions are indispensable.

The professional potter Céu Pedrosa told the class the story of her family, with a long tradition of potters, and moved on to explain the story of pottery in general.  After explaining the tools of the job, she showed the pupils the possible results and the process, using the spinning wheel.

The students wore aprons and, while in line to try and make pots with the pedal wheel, started making little objects with Das, to become familiar with plastic materials.

After everybody had tried the difficult and beautiful art of creating vases with the wheel, they move on to building a clay replica of the Venus of Willendorf. For this job, the Portuguese students just instructed the hosts on how to proceed, since they had already built their dolls during the previous weeks.

At the end of the workshop, besides the new and stimulating experience, every guest student had produced a vase on the wheel, with the help of the potter and a replica of the Venus of Willendorf, with the help of the Portuguese correspondent; proving good following directions skills. The products will be fired and delivered during the next trip to Italy.
