The international city of lace and fashion» is a museum in Calais mainly dedicated to the history of woven lace on mechanical looms. The first section of the museum is dedicated to the history of bobbin and needle lace, practiced since the sixteenth century. The hanging collects pieces of lace and iconographic evidence. In the second section is highlighted the history of mechanical lace born during the nineteenth century and particularly emphasized in Calais. This section ends with a relief map of the city showing the urban consequences of this industry development.

Upstairs, the tour continued through the process of manufacturing mechanical lace: a first room is occupied by machines for the outputs that have been specially put in operation for the students; the second room offers to follow the process of making a lace, from drawing to marketing. A fourth section explores the use of lace in 20th century fashion and contemporary creation.
