PT22 SLOGAN : “ Stand up ! Stand strong !” – Speaking up T-shirts

Students were divided into 8 groups from different countries. The Portuguese teachers gave them a song about women fighting for equality and respect : 

« Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me – but I have It » and « Ultra violence » (Lana Del Rey)

« Part of me » (Katy Perry)

« Pretty hurts » (Beyoncé)

« Tolerate it » (Taylor Swift)

« Figures » (Jessie Reyez)

« First love / late spring » (Mitski)

« Motion sickness » (Phoebe Bridgers). 

First, each group had to do some research about the singer (age, nationality, impact she has on teenagers mostly) , to analyse the song and think about the message the singer is sending. Then, they had to pick up and write important words, expressions, or sentences down on a coloured strip and they presented their song and talked about the message to other groups. Finally, each student made their own speak-up T-shirt using the strongest words they had selected and written in their coloured strip.

Students from different countries worked together to analyse a song and agree on the words they felt were most important in the fight for women's rights. They presented their song and strip to the other groups in English and wrote the key words of their song on the back of a T-shirt given to each student by the Portuguese school.
